Koh Samui Land for Sale

Koh Samui is Thailand’s third largest island and covers approximately 247 square kilometres. Until around 30 years ago, the island was sparsely populated and its prime industries were coconut farming and fishing. Although there has since been a lot of development in Samui, and the property market on the island has matured to the extend where both new and secondary sales of properties are significant, there is still a significant amount of land for sale on the island that attracts investors from around the world.

The island's main tourist areas have developed mainly around the best beaches, these being Chaweng bay, Lamai beach and the Bophut and Mae Nam area. In these areas, land is harder to find nowadays and more expensive than in other locations but there are still options available. Further back from the beach, the islands, forested hinterland has become the new focus for development, especially with regard to building private villas, and there is still an extensive choice available to investors looking for an ideal plot.

Beach front land on Koh Samui is becoming less and less readily available and is now quite hard to find on the market without paying top shelf prices comparable with those in other popular island destinations. Flat land without a sea view is plentiful, however, and most places on the island are easily accessible so choosing a plot is relatively easy. In terms of value for money, buying land like this for building can be an excellent way of getting an excellent deal and with the market growing year on year, such locations still represent a value proposition.

The other main land option on Samui is elevated sea view land. There is still a lot of sea view land for sale in a variety of locations, but it tends to be quite varied in price and quality. Good sea views will always increase the value of a property, but when considering land on the hillside it is also worth taking note of the access and the gradient of the slope, both of which can make a large difference to construction costs.
